Entry requirements

Applicants are required to have one of the following:
- A completed bachelor degree* from a recognised higher education institution or equivalent; or
- A completed graduate diploma* from a recognised higher education institution; or
- A completed graduate certificate* from a recognised higher education institution*.
* Normally applicants who have completed a degree with a grade point average of 4 or better will be eligible for entry.

Applicants who have:
- completed a bachelor degree in a business discipline; or
- completed a bachelor degree which includes a major in business, commerce, marketing or management; or
- completed a graduate certificate in a business discipline,
are eligible to enter the program with 0.5 EFTSL (18 units) Advanced Standing and complete the program in 1.5 years of full time study or equivalent part time study.

Aim

This program is designed to provide expertise knowledge and skills in the main areas of operational and strategic human resource management practice.

Content & Structure

To qualify for the award students must complete 72 units, comprising 2 Business School core;10 specialisation courses; 1 research core and 3 electives.

Rules & notes

Rules

1. Students who have completed the requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management or Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management, with a GPA of at least 4 or higher, may apply for admission into this program.

2. At least 1 elective course is required to be at an advanced level (please refer to the postgraduate electives list available at (http://w3.unisa.edu.au/management/current/ postgraduate.asp). A course from another division can be studied only with the permission of the Program Director.

3. Under ordinary circumstances additional credit will not be given for prior undergraduate studies. A student may be able to substitute another course if it can be demonstrated that a student has successfully completed appropriate and relevant prior study in a course.

4. Students who have taken, for another award, a course which is substantially equivalent to a course from the program schedule, may be granted up to one third of the program in credit or may substitute a course of equal standing and unit's value, with the approval of the Program Director. Credit will only be granted for courses undertaken at postgraduate level in a qualification that has not been used as the basis for Advanced Standing.

5. The Program Director may approve variations to the program of studies for a student by substituting courses from the program schedule with courses from other graduate level programs in this or another university.

6. Applicants who have completed a bachelor degree in a business discipline or who hold a bachelor degree which includes a major in business, commerce, marketing or management or applicants who have completed a graduate certificate in a business discipline are eligible to enter the program with 0.5 EFTSL (18 units) Advanced Standing in lieu of these courses and complete the program in 1.5 years of full time study or equivalent part time study.

7. Applicants who have completed a bachelor degree in a Human Resource Management discipline or applicants who have completed a graduate certificate in a Human Resource Management discipline are eligible to enter the program with 0.5 EFTSL (18 units) Advanced Standing in lieu of these courses and complete the program in 1.5 years of full time study or equivalent part time study.

Professional accreditation and recognition

This program has met the criteria for course accreditation and is currently accredited by the Australian HR Institute (AHRI). Accreditation is reviewed every three years by the AHRI National Accreditation Committee. Students applying for this course can be assured that the quality of core units map onto the AHRI Model of Excellence for HR Practitioners and Academics, a recognised benchmark of HR best practice and standards. All graduates of the Master qualification who meet the requisite work experience requirements will be eligible for direct entry into the Unit 4 Capstone: Applied Project in Organisational Capability of the AHRI Practising Certification (APC) Program. Candidates who have successfully completed the Capstone project will be awarded HR certification by AHRI and be recognised as Certified Practitioners HR (CPHR).
