Aim

The Master of Design (Design and Construct) qualifies individuals who apply an advanced body of knowledge and specialist theoretical framework of the integral relationship between architectural design and building construction for professional practice or scholarship, and as a pathway for further learning.

Content & Structure

Graduates of the Master of Design (Design and Construct) will have a body of knowledge of the principles and concepts required through various stages of a building project, from its design and documentation through to its construction and beyond. Graduates will also have knowledge of research methods and principles applicable to a wide variety of design and construction contexts.

Graduates will have advanced cognitive skills to critically review and analyse design and construction processes, consolidate and synthesise knowledge to identify and propose solutions to a range of complex design challenges and communication skills to transfer complex knowledge and ideas to a variety of audiences. Graduates will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills through a substantial research-based project.

The students will complete 72 units of study comprising 36 units of design research studio, 9 units of architectural practice, 4.5 units of design communication specialist course, 13.5 units of research methods and project, and 9 units of electives.
