Aim

While building on core Finance courses, the Master of Finance (Banking) aims to equip students with the knowledge of and capability to apply key finance theory, practice and rigorous research methodology to contemporary banking and financial institution management in a global financial system context. Central to this is:

  • an understanding of the operation and management of financial intermediaries;
  • risk assessment and its application to risk management in banking;
  • the role that the central bank/financial system regulator plays in the banking and finance systems and more broadly in the economy; and
  • contemporary challenges and issues facing the world's international financial institutions, including the role of China's banking sector as a central pillar in global growth.

Content & Structure

The program requires the completion of 16 courses totalling 72 units including four Business School core courses, four core finance courses, a four course banking specialisation, two research courses and two electives.

The core finance courses are:

  • Corporate Finance
  • Financial Theory and Financial Markets
  • International Finance and
  • Investment Management.

The Banking specialisation courses are:

  • Money, Banking and Financial Markets
  • Chinese Banking & Wealth Management
  • Managing Financial Risk and
  • Risk Management in Financial Instituions.
