Aim

The Bachelor of International Relations qualifies individuals who apply a broad and coherent body of knowledge to undertake productive and socially responsible professional work in culturally diverse global contexts, based on continuing development of professional knowledge and skilful analysis of politics and international relations, and as a pathway for further learning.

Content & Structure

Graduates of the Bachelor of International Relations will have broad and coherent theoretical and technical knowledge with depth in the underlying principles and concepts of the discipline of International Relations, underpinned by experiential learning via professional experience within Australia or overseas, and the option of complementing that knowledge by undertaking language studies or a sub-major or minor sequence in World Politics or another discipline or area of practice.

The Bachelor of International Relations is equivalent to three years of full-time study comprising 108 units. The program includes:

  • the professional major of eight designated courses in International Relations (36 units);
  • a World Politics minor of four courses (4 x 4.5 units = 18 units);
  • approved professional experience in Australia or overseas (9 or 18 units) or international student exchange (18 units);
  • professional specialisation courses chosen by students in World Politics, or in one or two languages, or in approved professional application courses (18 or 27 units); and
  • two Common Core courses (2 x 4.5 units), one course in Indigenous Australian Studies (4.5 units), and a Free Elective selected from undergraduate courses across the University (4.5 units).
