Admission criteria

The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

Certain conditions apply. For more information refer to Appendix 4 of the University's Selection and Entry policy.

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to have:

Completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and
- completed 200 credits of subjects;
- achieved a grade of C* or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2;
- achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2;
- obtained a competitive ATAR.
* For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required
Alternatively, applicants are required to have one of the following:
- Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma;
- Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution;
- Completed a recognised diploma or associated diploma from TAFE or Certificate IV level course;
- Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at the appropriate level;
- Qualified for Special Entry; or
- Completed University Foundation program;
OR

Completed one of the following professional courses:
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
- MCSE + Internet and Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD)
- Lotus Certified Professional (CLP)
- Novell Certified NetWare Engineer (CNE)
- Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA)
- Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP)

Aim

This program aims to provide a broad and fundamental understanding of the theory and practice of computers and information technology and prepares graduates for a professional career in computing and the software development and information services industry.

Content & Structure

The program consists of
Core courses in information technology science (67.5 units),
An Elective enrichment course (4.5 units)
A major (36 units) or two minors (2 x 18 units) to provide specialisation. There are four defined majors to provide (named) specialisations in Information Technology, however a student may take a combination of two IT minors from the list at the end of the program schedule, or a combination of an IT minor from the list at the end of the program schedule plus a minor from the list of minors provided by Schools from across the university.
A total of 108 units are required for the completion of the program.

1. Program and course availability: The program is available at the Mawson Lakes Campus, however some courses are also offered at City West and Magill. The program can be studied full-time and part-time internal, and part-time external (first two years only).

2. The Elective course can be selected from any School within the University.

3. This program has four named IT specialisation schedules plus a generic schedule. In the generic schedule, the sequence of eight minor courses can consist of any two of the IT minors listed below OR a combination of an IT Minor from the list below and a published minor provided by a School within the University.
