Admission criteria

The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

Certain conditions apply. For more information refer to Appendix 4 of the University's Selection and Entry policy.

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to have:

Completed the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE); and
- completed 200 credits of subjects;
- achieved a grade of C* or better in the Personal Learning Plan, 20 credits of literacy, 10 credits of numeracy and the Research Project at Stage 2;
- achieved a grade C- or better in an additional 60 credits at Stage 2;
- obtained a competitive ATAR.
* For Stage 2 subjects a grade of C- or better is required

Alternatively, the minimum educational requirements may be met by those who have fulfilled prerequisite requirements and:
- Completed the equivalent secondary education qualifications as required for university entry under SACE; or
- Completed or partly completed a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution; or
- Completed at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses in a degree level; or
- Completed an award from TAFE or from another registered training organisation at AQF Certificate IV or above; or
- Completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma; or
- Qualified for Special Entry; or
- Completed University Foundation Studies program, Applied Science and Engineering stream; or
- Completed the Associate Degree in Engineering program at the University of South Australia.

Aim

This program aims to provide graduates with skills in both engineering and information technology, which prepares graduates for a career in the manufacturing or the information services industries. It provides graduates with a range of engineering skills at a professional level, and prepares students for the applications of computer systems in manufacturing industry or government organisations.

Content & Structure

The engineering studies over the five years of the program focus on basic engineering sciences, communication, the role of the engineer in society, manufacturing practices, processes, and automation; while providing specialist studies in energy systems, machine design, robotics and intelligent manufacturing at a professional level.

The computer science program supports the engineering program with studies in computer system architecture, database technology, internet technology and object-oriented system development. In the fifth year, students complete a research or industry-based engineering project, which provides students with an opportunity to integrate a range of skills developed throughout the program.

Notes

1. All students must complete a period of industrial experience in a relevant industry prior to graduation. This program requires a minimum of 12 weeks of industrial experience in a relevant industry, which would normally be obtained after completing 2 years of the program. Assessment in the course Industrial Experience will remain incomplete until the student submits a written report and receives a pass.

2. The Elective course may be selected from any School within the University.

3. Students may choose engineering elective courses listed in the schedule and must take into account any pre-requisite courses that may be required. Depending on demand, not all courses may be offered in any one year.
