Course aim
To introduce students to the concepts, skills and resources required to undertake entrepreneurial journalism. To apply this knowledge to the creation of a working model for a new entrepreneurial journalism project developed by the student.
Course content
Students learn how models and practices of entrepreneurial journalism are influencing the Australian and international media landscape. The course also covers how key concepts around new media business models, co-creation and autonomy are driving the development of the entrepreneurial journalism sector, from freelance work through to small businesses and community initiatives. Students will develop skills for an entrepreneurial journalism project, including: structured ideation; business and story pitching; managing legal and ethical obligations; and story creation and production.
