Between now and 2023, career growth for financial brokers, dealers and investment advisers is set to increase by 7.3% Australia-wide2, creating exciting opportunities for qualified business professionals.

Careers to consider in finance and economics include:

  • Business adviser: can work with new or established businesses; analysing business plans and financial statements; advising on investments, marketing, funding and financial trends; understanding consumer needs and how to improve profitability
  • Credit analyst: gathering and analysing financial data about clients and recommending a course of action; conduct financial risk statements; decide whether the borrower has adequate cash flows; compare ratios to industry standards and benchmark data 
  • Investment banker: raising capital for companies, governments and other entities; assisting with large, complicated financial transactions; providing advice in areas such as mergers and acquisitions, regulatory environments, and risk assessment
  • Tax economist: conduct research and formulate plans on various economic issues; study the socioeconomic impacts of new public policies; forecast market trends through data analysis

Between now and 2023, career growth for land economists and valuers, and real estate agents, is set to increase by 5.8% and 7.3% Australia-wide respectively2, creating exciting opportunities for qualified property professionals.

Careers to consider in property:

  • Commercial property analyst: researching market trends and statistics to forecast the industry future; determining the best use of finances; performing due diligence research in order to broker real estate deals; working with sellers and buyers
  • Land and property valuer: providing advice on financing and valuation; analysing investments; managing portfolios; calculating values by considering market demand, future trends and other factors; valuing office, retail, industrial and residential properties for sale and purchase, bank lending and preparation of financial statements
  • Property developer: researching land and property opportunities and evaluating the feasibility of a project; assessing the best use for the land or property; planning the property development, including the schedule and costs; working with architects, builders, and local councils
  • Property fund manager: providing advice for clients on where and how to invest; improving the value of a property; implementing an investment strategy; managing portfolios of trading activities
  • Property manager: managing and maintaining residential or commercial rental properties; analysing market conditions and ensuring properties are occupied; organising records and documents and handling contracts; organising regular property maintenance
  • Sales and leasing property consultant: developing and implementing sales and leasing proposals for commercial land and property; negotiating lease and sales transactions; generate listings and service existing client sales
