Admission criteria

Applicants are required to meet one of the following criteria with a competitive result:

Higher education study

Successfully completed equivalent to a minimum of half a year of full-time study of a higher education program at a recognised higher education provider

OR
Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Complete an award from a registered training organisation at Certificate IV or above

OR
Work and life experience (for domestic students only)

Passed a UniSA Online literacy and numeracy test and have relevant work experience, or
Completed a 12-month UniSA Foundation Studies program or equivalent, or
Qualify for Special Entry

OR
Recent secondary education

Completed a secondary education qualification equivalent to SACE, such as an interstate year 12 or international qualification

Aim

The program prepares graduates with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to contribute as dynamic and forward- thinking professionals to improving population health and wellbeing.

The program aims to prepare graduates for Public Health Practitioner roles within health administration and policy; health protection and promotion; health monitoring and surveillance; community and non-government organisations; and research.

Content & Structure

The program includes courses in public health and health promotion, health systems and policy, biological sciences, Aboriginal culture and health, project management and evaluation, and health research methods and statistics.

The degree requires successful completion of courses comprising 108 units.

Professional accreditation and recognition

This program provides a qualification that is recognised as the basis for initial registration of graduates by the International Union of Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE), as internationally recognised competent Health Promotion Practitioners. Accreditation recognises that education and training undertaken by graduates of this program covers all domains of the IUHPE Core Competencies Framework, and that their learning outcomes relate to the performance criteria defined in the IUHPE Professional Standards, preparing graduates to be competent Health Promotion Practitioners as defined by the IUHPE (the international program accrediting body).
