Aim

The Bachelor of Psychological Science and Sociology provides a broad social science qualification for individuals employed in the public/community sector. The program provides a pathway to postgraduate studies in Social Work and Human Services.

Content & Structure

Graduates of the Bachelor of Psychological Science and Sociology degree will have a broad and coherent body of sociological, social policy and psychological knowledge and skills with initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in sociology, social policy and psychology practice and/or scholarship. They will be able to adapt knowledge and skills in diverse contexts in areas such as social services, social administration, and research and project work; with responsibility and accountability for their own learning and professional practice and in collaboration with others within broad parameters.

The students will complete 108 units of study comprising 85.5 units of core courses, 18 units of electives, and one introduction to online studies course or additional elective. As part of the 85.5 units of core courses, students will undertake 18 units of courses in either the Ageing and Disability or Criminology area. The 18 units of electives can be used to undertake courses in the remaining area if desired.
