UO Social Problems and the Law

Course aim

To introduce students to socio-legal approaches to understanding law and its relationship to social problems.

Course content

This course examines how the law responds to, regulates and influences some of the most complex problems in contemporary society. It offers an overview of how law is made and changed in response to social problems across time and place. The course positions current issues that present challenging legal, moral and ethical questions within their social and historical context. In doing so, it examines the role of law in society and analyses connections between the law and political, social and economic factors.
