To apply theoretical models of language in evidence based assessments and management of acquired language and cognitive communication disorders in adults.
Students will further develop their understanding of theoretical models of language and how these can be applied to understand language impairments in adult populations. Students will critically evaluate the evidence for assessment, management and advocacy of people who have acquired language and cognitive communication disorders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This course supports students to develop the communication and clinical interaction skills relevant to speech pathology practice by providing an opportunity to interact with an elderly member of the community (with mild dementia) through simulation-based learning.
