Virtual Reality Storytelling

Course aim

The course will introduce students to the new environment of virtual reality journalism. Students will engage with emerging technologies in journalism production and use this knowledge to produce virtual reality videos up to industry standard. The course will consolidate students' knowledge of virtual reality and 360° journalism and allow them to produce content to enhance their job readiness in a changing journalism environment.

Course content

Students will examine in depth the emerging field of 360° and virtual reality journalism and will expand their creative, technical and conceptual practice through the production of a virtual reality/ 360° video. Through specialised study and topic engagement, students develop an understanding of storytelling which combines new technology with the fundamentals of journalism production.































































































































Course topics will include: virtual reality and history; 360° journalism; editing practices; equipment and specifics; shooting and planning in 360°; ethics and technology; troubleshooting with VR; looking forward in a changing industry.
