Course aim

Upon completion of this course students will have established a foundation for a professional portfolio of original musical compositions and arrangements in various jazz styles and for various instrumentations

Course content

The student majoring in composition will study jazz harmony, compositional techniques and orchestration. Music literature studied will focus on extending understanding of the Jazz music repertoire of the 20th and 21st century. Student will demonstrate mastery of these skills and concepts, as well as the development of an individual compositional style, by completing a portfolio of scores. The completion of the portfolio will take place in Major Compositional Studies 2
