Course aim

To develop foundational instrumental, improvisational, interpretive and technical skills, in addition to developing the practice and performance repertoire of particular musical styles and genres.

Course content

Focuses on the development of instrumental and/or vocal skills through large ensemble rehearsals and performances. Students will acquire basic skills in sight-reading and ensemble techniques. Each student will audition for an ensemble place or participate in a small reading ensemble. Students will extend their repertoire based on the post swing era, mainstream and Bebop styles.
