Course aim

To advance students’ knowledge of the Australian context of social work and the human services sector and to assist in the integration of social work theories, skills, values and ethics as applied to social work practice in Australian settings, including work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Course content

The students will develop specific social work knowledge about the Australian context of Social Work, an overview of the human services sector and an understanding of the culture of Australian welfare practices. Students will rehearse and demonstrate professional social work skills including report writing skills and case notes and develop their skills and abilities to be able to articulate the purpose of social work and relevant social work theories and their application to practice issues in the Australian context, including issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
