Course aim

To provide students with the foundational knowledge and analytical skills for designing and evaluating complex interventions that aim to improve health of the population.

Course content

Role of evaluation in population health programs and the policy cycle; different evaluation forms and approaches relevant to population health; principles and processes of collaborative and culturally competent evaluation; how to conduct a needs assessment to generate evidence to justify a policy or a program; use of program theory and logic models in evaluation; the strengths and weaknesses of experimental, quasi-experimental and non-experimental evaluation designs; qualitative methods and approaches to evaluation; administrative and ethical considerations in evaluation; translation and communication of evaluation findings to inform policy and practice.
