Course aim

To provide an in-depth understanding of selected Internet protocols, especially at the Transport and Application Layers, including the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the Hypertext Transport Protocol (HTTP). Secondly, to provide some breadth of understanding of selected Internet topics via guest lectures. This course builds on the foundations provided by the prerequisite course.

Course content

History of Internet development, the Internet Protocol Architecture, Internet Standards Bodies and protocol standards, Transmission Control Protocol, User Datagram Protocol, Hypertext Transfer Protocol and selected topics that may include: Domain Name System, Datagram Congestion Control Protocol, Real Time Protocol, Session Initiation Protocol, REST principles, the Internet of Things, Web Services, Electronic Mail, Internet Security, Network Management.
