Asset Management and Building Pathology

Course aim

To relate the design, engineering and scientific principles relevant to building pathology, asset management and remedial works. To synthesize the solutions to building failures and defects, their manifestation, causes and repair. Link the building pathology to the overall strategic and tactical management and operation of assets.

Course content

Building Pathology; Building inspection and report writing. Management of repair/remedial works in both a single project and as part of a program of works for a building facility; Specific services and skills required in relation to existing buildings and developments, e.g. dilapidation reports, technical due diligence inspections, defect identification and repair, and change of use. Strategic facilities and asset management and building operation; Space utilization and management; Sustainable asset and facilities management; Outsourcing and business continuity planning; Intelligent buildings and the role of digital and intelligent systems including 3D scanning and BIM in the occupancy phase.
