Recruitment and Selection

Course aim

To provide knowledge and skills in the contemporary theory and practice of job analysis, recruitment, selection and retention of talent.

Course content

Employment market analysis; job analysis (work and person oriented techniques); attraction of potential employees (sources of candidates, techniques such as realistic job previews, employee referral); assessment of candidates (issues of reliability, validity and consistency); selection tools: collecting, collating and assessing applicant information; selection techniques (the different types of interviews, psychometric tests, ability tests, personality assessment, work samples and assessment centres); legal regulation of hiring; recruitment and selection as organisational socialisation; recognising diversity; person-job, person-organisation, person-workgroup fit; employer branding; employer of choice strategies; employer choices in an era of chronic skill shortage.
