Indigenous Perspectives on Globalisation

Course aim

To enable students to explore the positioning of the Aboriginal subject in the contexts of colonialism, post-colonialism and neo-colonialism and apply that analysis to an understanding of disciplinary knowledge and practice within the social sciences.

Course content

The students will investigate global Aboriginal knowledges comparative to western disciplinary knowledge and practice. The students will also examine non-Aboriginal 'knowledge' systems from Aboriginal perspectives using critical and post colonial theory, the application of western knowledges and theory to the colonial subject; ‘intersectionality’ and ‘border knowledges’ as examples of change and the re-positioning of the Aboriginal subject within the context of globalisation.
