Policy, Governance and the Economy

Course aim

To examine at intermediate level the implications of globalisation for policy in Australia and to develop, through policy case studies, the concepts and skills for comparative and interdisciplinary policy analyses.

Course content

Students will build on the concepts and content acquired in the introductory courses and will examine the implications of globalisation and its impact on policy. The students will analyse modernist and postmodernist approaches to policy development, the ethics and values of policy analysis, theories for policy analysis, the links between globalisation, economic rationalism and neo-liberalism, their impact on the policy-making process, and the construction of ‘social problems’.  Students examine the processes of policy formulation, implementation and evaluation, evaluates tools for policy analysis, and critically analyses particular Australian and international policies.
