Course aim

To provide students with the methods, conceptual foundations, practices and skills necessary to function in the property investment and institutional property markets.

Course content

Real estate as an investment; present value mathematics for real estate; long and short term leases; nominal versus effective interest rates; measuring investment performance - the concept of returns; market value versus investment value, the use of debt and the effects of leverage; after-tax investment analysis; real estate investment capital structure; real estate portfolio theory; equilibrium asset valuation; reits; data and performance measurement
