Course aim
This course aims to build on students’ understanding of space and place as sites of cultural and communication practice locally and globally, and to examine the ways such places are present in the media and everyday life.
Course content
This course focuses on understanding how communication and space are culturally constructed. In so doing, it pays attention to institutional practices and the ways meaning is created about place and identities. Course topics also cover changing conceptualisations, representations and experiences of place at local, national and international levels, alongside relevant political and policy debates. Topics covered include consumerism, environment and tourism.
