Course aim

The aim of this course is to develop a range of contemporary theoretical and practical frameworks to expand on the repertoire of assessment intervention and evaluation strategies designed to promote recovery for people with mental illness from diverse client groups.

Course content

Socio-political context of mental health; recovery processes; community and institutional aspects of mental health care; concepts of mental health promotion and mental illness; models of mental health assessment associated with a range of problems; behaviours and needs with respect to physical, psychosocial and cognitive areas of human functioning; common mental health problems and associated interventions (including psychopharmacology); legal and ethical issues; The National Mental Health Plan and Policy; multiculturalism and the mental health of indigenous people; critical thinking and reflection; pharmacology and pharmacokinetics.
