Information for those whose highest level of study since leaving secondary education is a Vocational Education and Training (VET) course.

Eligibility

To be eligible for selection into a UniSA degree, diploma or associate degree program using your VET qualifications, you are required to have fulfilled any prerequisite requirements and other academic requirements for the degree, alongside a completed certificate IV, diploma or advanced diploma from a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Applicants are ranked with other applicants who hold a qualification at the same level. Higher qualifications receive a higher rank. For example, applicants who hold an Advanced Diploma are ranked with other holders of an Advanced Diploma, above applicants who hold a Certificate IV.

Applicants who have studied at a higher education institution for more than two years’ equivalent full-time study will not be eligible to compete using their VET qualifications, unless the VET qualification has been completed subsequent to higher education study.

If you are successful in gaining a place in a degree, you may also be eligible to receive credit for relevant previous study, reducing the time it takes to complete your degree.

Do you have Year 12 results?

You can still use your year 12 results for entry into UniSA degrees as long as you have not completed more than two years of equivalent full-time study at a higher education institution. As you will compete for a place alongside the recent secondary education students you will need to check if your results are competitive with the current year 12 Selection Ranks. If you are not sure, contact the Future Student Enquiries team for advice.

Minimum and Guaranteed Entry

Some VET awards qualify you for guaranteed entry to many UniSA degrees.  If you don’t meet guaranteed entry – don’t worry, you may be able to apply based on a minimum TAFE/RTO qualification.  Details of both guaranteed and minimum entry can be found on our TAFE/RTO Guide.

Credit Transfer

To see our pre-approved credit transfer agreements with other institutions, visit our online credit assessor. Select your year of study, institution and qualification to see how much credit you could receive.

Credit transfer is available for many more UniSA degrees, so you may still be eligible for credit transfer if your previous institution or award details are not listed on the assessor. Credit for unrelated qualifications will be considered on a case by case basis.

A final decision on the amount of credit you receive will be made once you have formally applied for a credit transfer. After you receive your new student email and login details, head to the credit assessor, print the application form with your results, and submit them at your Campus Central office.

StevePathway to a new destination

After working in carpentry for 12 years, Steve was ready for a career change.

“At the time my boss was looking to retire, so I was faced with the option of taking over the business and locking in my future, or changing track and following a career path involving the arts, which had always been my passion. I didn’t want to look back when I was older and regret not giving it a go.”

Steve went on to study an Honours Degree in Visual Arts, focusing on sculpture and installation.
