Admission criteria
The admission criteria have been grouped to assist you to easily find the information most relevant to your circumstances. However, you may fit into more than one and the university will consider applicants against each of the relevant criteria.

To be eligible for selection, applicants are required to:
Qualify for the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), and
- obtain a competitive ATAR, and
- meet any prerequisite requirements with a minimum grade of C-
Alternatively, applicants can fulfil one of the following requirements with a competitive result, and demonstrate that they fulfil any prerequisite requirements, and other academic requirements for the program:
- Complete secondary education qualifications equivalent to SACE, or
- Complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum score of 24 points, or
- Complete or partly complete a recognised higher education program at a recognised higher education institution, or
- Complete at least four Open Universities Australia (OUA) courses at undergraduate level or above, or
- Qualify for Special Entry, or
- Complete a University Foundation Studies program

Aim
The Laws Double Degree will provide a professional level of education for students seeking to pursue a legal career. Study in a complimentary discipline will provide students with the background to enable them to operate in a wide range of working environments, depending on the second discipline.
Content & Structure
The total number of units required is 180 - that is, 40 courses. Those 40 courses are divided as follows between the two degree programs: 24 courses from the Bachelor of Laws program; and 16 courses from the Second Degree .
Six courses (27 units) from the Bachelor of Laws program are not prescribed, enabling double degree students to complete the Honours program (9 units), one additional law elective (4.5 units) and the three practice elective courses (13.5 units).

Rules
1. The Laws Double Degree comprises 40 courses totalling 180 units and includes: 24 courses from the Bachelor of Laws program; and 16 courses from the Second Degree.
2. Eligible students may include a single Honours dissertation worth 9 units in the final year in place of two 4.5 unit electives.
Notes
1. Students seeking admission to practice law must complete the following courses: LAWS 4002 Civil Procedure; LAWS 4003 Evidence; and LAWS 4006 Professional Conduct.
2. The following Bachelor of Arts majors are available: Communication, Creativity and Culture; History and Belonging; Literature and Languages; World Politics and International Relations (refer to the program structure for MBAT Bachelor of Arts for details of these majors); or a major in one of the available Languages: French, Italian or Japanese (refer to the majors, sub-majors and minors home pages for details http://www.unisanet.unisa.edu.au/majorminor/displaymajor.asp). Students select one major and enrol in the four designated courses and four option courses (except in Languages where eight core courses are prescribed).
3. The three electives will be chosen from the required and option courses for any of the majors.
4. Students select one course from the prescribed electives table above.
Professional accreditation and recognition
This program covers in a comprehensive way the academic requirements for admission to practice as specified by the national Law Admissions Consultative Committee and applied in South Australia by the Legal Practitioners Education and Admission Council. In addition to the academic requirements of the program, students seeking admission to practice are required to complete an approved practical legal training (PLT) program. Students seeking admission to practice in other Australian jurisdictions should apply to the appropriate admitting authority.
