- A completed Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Management or equivalent

In addition, international students who speak English as a foreign language must have obtained one of the following standards within the last two years prior to admission. Possession of one or more of these qualifications, in addition to the academic entry requirements, does not, in itself, guarantee a place at the University of South Australia. Applications are considered on an individual basis and selection is competitive. Where previous study/work experience was conducted in English, the application must be accompanied by certified documentation from the educational institution/employer certifying that the language of instruction/employment was English.

The program provides students with a professionally recognised qualification in library and information management and prepares students for careers as skilled librarians, and as well as knowledge and information management officers, records managers, preservations managers, or archivists, depending upon chosen electives.

Rules & notes

Rules

1. The program requires the completion of 54 units comprising 36 units from the Graduate Diploma and either: (a) 18 units consisting of 2 core courses and 2 electives or (b) 18 units consisting of 2 core courses and the ICT Masters Professional Project 1.

2. Students undertaking this program will be required to complete 4 weeks of appropriate work placement under qualified supervision to satisfy accrediting bodies.If students are employed in a related field they will be exempt from this work placement. Students must enrol in the course Information Management Experience Reports and assessment will remain incomplete until either 1) the student completes the placement, submits a written report and receives a pass, or 2) provides documentary evidence of current employment, submits a written report and receives a pass.

Notes

1. Electives may be chosen from the list. Not all electives will necessarily be available in any one calendar year and the decision on whether or not to offer a particular elective will depend on student demand.

2. This program is mainly offered online. There is no residential requirement for the program, but students are required to visit appropriate information management facilities as part of various courses in the program.
