Professional Experience 3: Informed Planning (HP)

Course aim

To develop students' capacities to perform as competent pre-service teachers within educational settings and their communities.

Course content

Students will use curriculum frameworks for planning, programming, implementing, assessing, recording, reporting and evaluating learning programs for extended periods. Students will plan and teach contextually relevant curriculum for identified cohorts (primary and secondary), mindful of the continuity of learning in relation to the class program. Students will develop understanding and use of assessment as an integral part of educators' every day practice in determining the effectiveness of learning experiences for the child/student. As knowledge of the diversity of learners builds, students will further develop skills in differentiation to maximise relevant and inclusive personalised learning experiences. Students will develop competence in facilitating supportive, inclusive and safe learning environments in order to maximise learner engagement, effective use of learning time, learner achievement and well-being.

Pre-service teachers will further develop understanding of the importance and complexity of professional relationships within the school community, and communicate with high levels of personal and social awareness as a foundation for effective teaching when relating with students, supervising teachers, other staff, and when building connections with parents/caregivers and the wider school community. Pre-service teachers will build their understanding and experience of the teacher’s role as wider than the classroom; engaging with school-wide administrative and organisational requirements, and participating with colleagues in professional learning to improve practice.

Students must have completed a minimum of one attempt of both the literacy and numeracy components of LANTITE to be eligible to enrol in EDUC 3086.
