Course aim

To develop students' advanced social work knowledge and skills in engagement, assessment, intervention and critical reflection, using diverse practice perspectives in different contexts.

Course content

Students will develop advanced theoretical knowledge and intervention skills in crisis intervention, task centred approaches, assessing risk (including suicide risk and safety planning in gendered violence and working with children and women affected by violence and men who use violence), feminist approaches, narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive and behavioural therapies, solutions focused approach, in work with couples and families, and in diverse cultural contexts. The students will enhance their skills; in critical reflection, professional decision making and ethical practice; working with complexity in different practice settings.
