Course aim

To introduce students to the concepts, applications, basic analysis and measurements in electrical and electronic systems.

Course content

This course will introduce students to the basic principles of electrical systems and electronic circuits.  Electronic circuits will be described in terms of basic electrical quantities, components, and circuit analysis methods. Electrical systems such as power supply will be introduced in the context of renewable and non-renewable supply, transmission and storage. 

Topics that will be covered include: basic electrical quantities, systems of units, resistance, resistive circuits, Ohms Law, Kirchhoff Current Law, Kirchhoff Voltage Law, capacitors, inductors, transients, diodes, simple operational amplifiers, relays, electronic switching, first order transient analysis, steady state analysis, induction, transformers, electromagnetic fundamentals, energy sources and storage.
