Course aim

To provide students with the theoretical foundations, knowledge, and skills in metadata creation, enrichment and application using Dublin Core for libraries and Encoded Archival Description (EAD) for archives.

Course content

Theories, principles, and practices of the Encoded Archival Description (EAD) XML standard and Dublin Core Metadata element set; encoding finding aids, vocabulary for resource description; metadata element sets and value vocabularies design, evaluation and application to optimise intellectual access; issues around metadata sharing, metadata quality, Linked Data, and the future of metadata creation.
