To explore, compare and critically examine educational leadership across global, national, local and cross-institutional education settings, with a particular focus on leading professional learning communities. To apply these deep understandings of similarities and differences across educational settings with the ultimate aim to lead school reform to improve learning, curriculum and pedagogy.
Students will examine and compare international, national, local and cross-institutional educational policies. Students will explore the contested nature of ‘educational leadership’ as a global construct, focusing on key areas of the field, such as leading learning, instructional leadership, distributed leadership, relational leadership and transformational leadership. Students will critically examine comparative differences in curriculum, pedagogy and educational ethos and review various comparative case studies, developing their own site specific case study centred upon leadership, pedagogy and curriculum in the context of leading professional learning communities.
