Course aim

This module considers an overview of current and future energy technologies and the role that policy and politics play in achieving these priorities.

Course content

Consideration will be given to the future role of coal, the decoupling of economic growth from carbon emissions and the potential mix of fossil and renewable sources of energy, including nuclear, in a future low carbon energy system. How large-scale energy infrastructure projects are developed by government will also be discussed, in relation to the UK’s nuclear energy programme, as well as the measures being taken to reduce the energy demand of energy-intensive industries, such as cement and steel.
