Course aim

To examine perspectives on the theory and practice of curriculum, pedagogy and assessment in relation to approaches for Islamic schools and their interconnections with school visions, aims, objectives, and classroom practices.

Course content

Students will develop an understanding of curriculum and assessment in diverse educational settings for Muslim students consistent with the purpose, intent and principles of education within the tradition as mediated by Islamic Research Methodology. Students will also investigate various issues around curriculum, assessment and reporting and the implications for responsive pedagogy for Muslim students. Issues to be explored via an Islamic Research Methodology include: integrated curriculum models and notions of integration, inclusion, infusion and embedding; principles and practices of effective assessment and reporting; theories and practices that drive formation of high quality curriculum for Australian Muslim students. Students will also evaluate the role of assessment in shaping the curriculum and understanding the role of educators in curriculum, and assessment practice inside contemporary education settings.
