Course aim

The three phases of the honours project provide the opportunity for students to put what they've learned through prior and adjacent courses into practice on a more complex innovation challenge. Some new elements are introduced, particularly in terms of the soft skills required to effect change. 

This course (Part 1 of 3) focuses principally on research, critical thinking, creativity and innovations skills.

Course content

  • Form a multidisciplinary design team around an innovation challenge
  • Build an effective relationship with industry partners
  • Refine the design brief and develop a work plan
  • Understand the user and strategic context and why innovation is required
  • Frame the innovation opportunity
  • Design a range of options to meet the innovation challenge
  • Assess feasibility and shortlist options worthy of pursuing
  • Commence initial prototyping in order to test and evolve ideas
  • Select which concepts to move forward with
  • Directed study on Honours Innovation Challenge Part 1 in conjunction with industry partner and mentors
