Introduction to Computer Modelling for Product Design

Course aim

To develop skills in the use of computer aided design and virtual modelling as a tool for visualising and communicating design intent of objects. Students will learn to create solid models of a simple product that will be used to create engineering drawings to AS1100 to specify shape, size, and materials; plus create photo-quality images.

Course content

The students will be introduced to techniques for solid modelling. Engineering drawing and dimensioning to AS1100: drawing sheet layout; line types and text size; view placement; reference dimensions; section views and SolidWorks basics (sketch, extrude and cut) and advanced modelling (mirror, pattern, loft, sweep), creating assemblies, drawings, bills of materials and photo rendering.
