Course aim

This unit will introduce students to key concepts of decision making, ethics and individual behaviour. Students will be introduced to a range of principles and perspectives that underpin human thinking and decision making, and will be encouraged to apply these concepts to examine their own behaviours. Through examining key theories of personality and motivation, the course will help students improve their own self-insight and have an understanding of the various factors that affect human judgement.

Course content

Introduction to understanding individual behaviour; personality theory, motivational concepts and the importance of values and attitudes in decision making. Key ethical theories including deontological and teleological approaches; introduction to systems thinking; heuristics and biases in decision making. Ability to describe common problem solving strategies and challenges, and recognise the complexity of decision making contexts.
