Course aim

To prepare students with the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required for beginning nursing practice.

Course content

Self-assessment; self- awareness; reflection; critical thinking; assertiveness training; personal reserves and resilience; formulating learning objectives and a personal learning plan; application of law and ethics to practice; quality and safety; health environments; applying principles of workplace health and safety; mandatory reporting; health promotion; health literacy; professional communication; scope of practice; context of practice; holistic nursing assessment; conducting a health interview; physical examination (including blood glucose monitoring); documentation and record keeping; health informatics; health technologies; asepsis and sterile fields; wound assessment and management; safe administration, storage and disposal of medicines and intravenous (IV) fluids.
