NBE Masters Thesis Part A

Course aim

To develop the skills necessary to plan a project in their discipline of interest in Natural and Built Environments and to plan a research project.

Course content

This course is the first of two courses (NBE Masters Thesis Part A and NBE Masters Thesis Part B) that culminates in a 9,000 word research Thesis (or equivalent body of work) that demonstrates a high level of synthesis of concepts and prepares the student for lifelong learning in pursuit of personal development and excellence in research and professional practice.
Students will fine tune the research proposal prepared in the pre-requisite research methods course course to investigate and report on a research topic in their discipline of interest in Natural and Built Environments. Students who have not completed their proposal in the pre-requisite research methods course will need to develop their proposal within NBE Masters Thesis Part A.
Students will then undertake a comprehensive literature review in accordance with their research proposal and develop their research tools/instruments.
Students whose projects contain empirical research involving humans/animals or research including execution risks will ensure that all human/animal research ethics issues are cleared and/or conduct a risk assessment, respectively, before conducting the research in NBE Masters Thesis Part B.

Prerequisite(s)

An equivalent Research Methods course to Masters Research Theory and Practice will be considered as a prerequisite for students unable to complete Masters Research Theory and Practice prior to commencing the research project (such as those entering a program with Advanced Standing).
