Course aim

Increase students’ awareness of the complex inter-relationships among the many ecological, economic and social factors that lie at the root of current natural resource management issues.
Provide students with enhanced problem-solving skills when employed in multi-disciplinary teams set up by government or industry to tackle complex natural resource management issues.

Course content

This course examines the biological and physical science aspects of natural resources and their management at local, national, and global scales, using an earth systems approach. Topics include the value and management of the atmosphere, biodiversity, ecosystem processes, primary production, soils forests, mineral resources and fisheries and an overview of the main management issues which relate to natural resources.
