Advanced Public International Law

Course aim

This course is designed to build upon the knowledge, research and analytical skills developed in the course, Public International Law. The course will be taught at an advanced level, with a particular focus on reflective and critical analysis of international legal materials, proceedings, jurisprudence and commentary.

Course content

The course content will include contemporary and topical issues in public international law, but will ultimately be based on the expertise and judgment of the Course Coordinator. However, areas to be examined may include such topics as the following:

International human rights law;
Environmental law;
The law of the sea;
Antarctic and Southern Oceans law;
The law of treaties;
Custom as a source of international law;
International law in domestic legal systems;
International humanitarian law;
The use of force;
The role of the Security Council;
State Responsibility.
