Course aim

To enable students to develop an understanding and appreciation of current skills, procedures and issues in Australian journalism and within a global context, with reference to multimedia newsgathering and interviewing techniques.

Course content

Students will be introduced to current practices, concepts and issues in journalism, both within Australia and internationally. Students will become familiar with key theories and skills required in journalism including news values and news judgement. They will develop competencies in, and understandings of, the fundamentals of newsgathering and interviewing, and will be introduced to differences in reporting styles and technical skills across media both in Australian and global contexts. Students will also reflect on their own future career paths in journalism and identify inherent ethical and legal obligations.
