Course aim

To further develop students' knowledge of music genres within historical contexts and across media.

Course content

Students develop further understanding of the function of music in various performance and media contexts. They explore various historical and contemporary music genres through the study of seminal songs, instrumental pieces, chamber music, incidental and film music, rock opera, music drama and musical theatre. Students apply knowledge of the function of music to the analysis of music performance and music media. They learn how to use theoretical concepts and genre characteristics to curate music for live events and produced media.

Completion of any first year course from the Performing Arts major/sub-major within the Bachelor of Arts, or by approval from the Program Director.
