Writing Drama for Theatre and Film

Course aim

To build on skills gained in introductory courses to further develop a practical and theoretical knowledge of writing drama for theatre and film, based on arts and industry practices.

Course content

Dramatic writing engages students in critical thinking about character, character motivation, action, event, image, sequence, flow of information, plot and economic language. Students learn to write to engage audiences (both theatre and film) in an active, unfolding present, using verbs, images, action and plot. Increasingly the use of film in theatre and theatre in film means that dramatic writers need to master both mediums.
