Regional Integration

Course aim

To extend students’ abilities to apply relevant theories and historical narratives in critical analyses of the transformative interdependence relationships in Europe and Asia, compare and contrast regional integration between Europe and Asia, and to ascertain whether globalisation is consistent with regional integration.

Course content

Students will develop advanced knowledge of theoretical approaches to inter-regional cooperation and economic and political integration; histories of East and West conquest; the origins of European integration; and the relevance of European integration initiatives for other regions. Students will acquire the skill to critically analyse Asia’s regional integration, including ASEAN and APEC, the East Asian Summit and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

Completion of any first year course from the International Relations major/sub-major within the Bachelor of Arts, or by approval from the Program Director.
