To enable students to critically review the principles underlying research, to identify the range of research methods and design used in the relevant field of study, and critically evaluate their application for specific research questions.
Students will investigate the range of research methods, paradigms and designs across the arts and social sciences, and the different research perspectives taken by different researchers and disciplines, before students critically evaluate research methods in their own field of study. Taking into account the relationship between research question and research design, students will use their knowledge of research principles and research methods to develop and justify the research design for their own research project.
