Course aim

Provide students with an understanding of the neural, physiological, mechanical and cognitive bases of controlling movement.

Course content

Motor control issues and concepts. Neural and muscular physiological basis of movement. Central and peripheral nervous system organisation and function for learning, memory, sensory-perception and movement control. Features and mechanisms of joint movement as well as postural, mobility and upper-limb control. Contemporary theories and their application for analysing, describing and explaining motor behaviour. Movement perturbations, age related changes and disorders, analysis of movement and motor control using a range of techniques (eg. video analysis, EMG and strength testing).
