Professional Experience 2: Curriculum and Pedagogy

Course aim

To provide pre-service teachers with the opportunity to work in depth in education settings appropriate to their specialisation, enabling them to develop the knowledge and skills that they acquired in their first year placement(s).

Course content

Students will develop knowledge of planning for teaching and learning using appropriate curricula, pedagogies and resources; developing skills and attitudes in critical reflection; developing professional relationships with children/students, their parents/caregivers, peers, and staff in the preschool/school setting; understanding the nature of teachers’ work; building on students' funds of knowledge; creating and managing a positive learning environment. Students will have the opportunity to practice skills in these areas during their supervised placement in a preschool, primary school or secondary setting according to their specialisation.
