English in the Professions

Course aim

To further extend students’ capability in spoken and written communication in English as an Additional (second or foreign) Language, at a developed level.

Course content

In this course, students for whom English is an additional (second or foreign) language will further develop their academic and professional use of English. This is particularly for students who wish either to specialise in English, or who wish to work in English-speaking countries. Students will extend their expertise in critical reading, writing and analysis; and other dimensions of research and writing in English. Students will develop an understanding of how to use intercultural strategies and appropriate genres of writing and presentation skills required in their intended worlds of work.

Prerequisite(s)

Available to students for whom English is an additional (ie second or foreign) language and who have successfully completed English and the Art of Speaking and Writing, or after consultation with the course co-ordinator.
